Ending the Iraq War
The United States’ war in Iraq has gone on for the last few years to the point where now it is being drawn out. Our troops’ original mission in Iraq was completed when we overthrew Saddam Hussein from power. Today, our troops are stationed in a foreign place left to basically babysit a country that is unable to secure a stable government. Even after the fall of Iraq’s dictator Saddam Hussein, Iraq is still a tense and unpredictable place. Our troops are stationed in a “no-win” situation, caught in-between a civil war between the Iran funded Shiite and the Saudi Arabian funded Sunni factions. Over four thousand United States servicemen have died over our military’s campaign in Iraq and we are in a position where it is no longer worth it to risk any other lives for a country that has more problems than we can handle. It is about time that our country’s campaign in Iraq comes to an end. I am in accordance with Congressional candidate Dr. Michael Babula on the issue of ending the Iraq War. It is favorable to me, and to most of United States citizens (who are fed up with the seemingly endless future for our troops in Iraq), for us to finally withdraw all of our military forces. The United States has funded hundreds of billions of dollars to the Iraq War, which has no end in sight. It is a morbid cause.
The other two Congressional candidates opposing Dr. Babula in the upcoming 2008 election are Donna Edwards and Albert Wynn, each of whom are hypocritical towards the issue of the Iraq War. This is because they have alternative motives to benefit themselves. Edwards holds almost two million dollars in investments in huge oil and gasoline industries like Exxon-mobil and Halliburton. Wynn also has a biased view because he initially voted for the use of force in Iraq. Dr. Michael Babula seems to be the only honest candidate in the upcoming election that is set on ending our country’s campaign in Iraq. We have spent enough time, money, energy, and lives in Iraq and now our many efforts seem futile again with Iraq’s Sunni-Shiite civil war. We have interfered enough already in the affairs of country that is ignorant of our help. We have worn out our welcome and I believe that we should take Dr. Babula’s advice and get out.
